Identity verification is a passport check run by Stripe Identity. It happens after you have connected payouts, not before.
What it blocks
Publishing a listing. Nothing else — you can browse the entire platform, set up your profile and connect your payouts while it is outstanding.
Why it comes after payouts
Each check costs the platform money. Connect onboarding costs nothing and already asks for bank details and Stripe's own checks, so running identity after it means we are only paying for checks on creators who are genuinely set up.
If it does not pass
You are told what went wrong in words you can act on — an unreadable photo, a document that has expired, a selfie that did not match. Retry from the same screen with the problem fixed.
Some outcomes cannot be retried. In those cases the message says so and points you at support instead of sending you round a loop.
While it is being checked
You will see "being reviewed". There is nothing to do and nothing to resubmit — starting a second check does not make the first one finish faster.
